Information security isn’t a checkbox — it’s a mindset. Together with our partner BMGRIP, we show how to embed that mindset sustainably within your organization.

Security as a shared responsibility

At Fellow Digitals, we consider information security just as important as innovation. We develop digital platforms — intranet and e-learning — for training, onboarding, and communication. That comes with responsibility: every day we process large volumes of data that deserve the highest level of care.

That’s why we continuously invest in knowledge, systems, and people who safeguard security — not just on paper, but in the way we work every day. Our approach is anchored in ISO 27001, NEN 7510, and ISO 27701 — international standards for information and privacy protection.

To ensure lasting quality, we work closely with BMGRIP. They guide us through audits, certifications, and the ongoing development of our Privacy & Information Security Management System (PIMS) — fully integrated into our own Fellow Intranet.

“Information security is a shared responsibility, not a checklist. Together with BMGRIP, we’re building a secure digital culture.” — Rick Tigelaar, COO, Fellow Digitals

Integrated Privacy & Information Security Management System (PIMS)

Our PIMS is the heart of our daily security processes. By integrating the system into our intranet, all documents, procedures, and risk analyses are just a few clicks away for every employee. This makes awareness tangible and keeps information security close to everyone in the organization.

Working with BMGRIP: From certification to culture

We’re proud of our partnership and how deeply security is now embedded in our organization. BMGRIP recently wrote an article about it:

“Fellow Digitals: three certifications and a successful PIMS” (original article by BMGRIP)

Below, you can read how we built, step by step, a company where information security has become second nature.

1. The challenge: implementing multiple standards

At Fellow Digitals, where large amounts of data are processed daily, information security is crucial. The company develops platforms for intranet and e-learning, working with sensitive data from organizations and their employees — data that must be well protected. To meet the highest security standards, we partnered with BMGRIP several years ago. Annika Willers (Internal Communications Manager) and Rick Tigelaar (COO) explain how the collaboration began, what steps were taken, and what results have been achieved.

“Back in 2018, we already had an internal certification process for ISO 27001. But progress was slow, so we sought support from BMGRIP. Through a contact at BMGRIP, we quickly got in touch. We asked them to help implement both ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 at Fellow Digitals. Those certificates were achieved in 2019. Two years later, ISO 27701 was added as well,” says Rick Tigelaar.

Fellow Digitals also implemented a Privacy & Information Security Management System (PIMS) in their own intranet. Annika Willers explains: “We use our intranet every day. By integrating the PIMS there, all documents and procedures are accessible within a few clicks. They’re visible — and that visibility creates the sense that we’re all in this together, committed to security.”

2. The results: a mature company in information security

What is Fellow Digitals most proud of? Rick explains: “It’s really the combination of all our efforts. The certifications are of course the foundation, but also the PIMS we’ve built into our intranet. We see that information and privacy security have really become part of everyone’s mindset. It’s now embedded in our culture. The certifications also give our customers confidence — they know their sensitive data is in good hands with us. You can have everything on paper, but everyone also needs to understand and live it. We’ve truly achieved that in recent years — thanks to BMGRIP’s support, but also through regular audits where everyone plays a role.”

He adds: “We’ve also implemented Jira as a supporting management tool for our PIMS. It worked so well that we now use it more widely — for example, our Development and Marketing teams use Jira to organize their work.”

BMGRIP’s Henry Snijders serves as our main contact. Rick continues: “Henry guides us through internal audits and joins the external ones too. During an external audit, we can already answer many questions ourselves. But when a complex question arises that requires consulting the standard text, Henry’s expertise is invaluable. He also keeps us updated on new developments in information security and gives regular updates during employee meetings, ensuring everyone stays informed.”

3. Looking ahead

In the coming years, Fellow Digitals intends to continue its partnership with BMGRIP. “We’re very happy with all the support and Henry’s role, so we’ll definitely keep moving forward together. We’re also exploring expanding our certifications — for example, ISO 27017, which focuses entirely on cloud service security. We like to stay ahead of the curve in that area and continue to surprise our customers.”

Moving forward — securely together

Information security is never “finished” — it’s a shared responsibility that evolves with every new technology and partnership. That’s why we keep investing in awareness, transparency, and trustworthy collaborations. Only together can we keep digital environments secure — today and tomorrow.
